A good mortising chisel should be robust and durable to withstand repeated heavy use when cutting grooves or cutting other joints.

A steel ring at the top of the handle prevents the handle from splitting under the constant pounding. The handle is made of durable European hornbeam. It is sanded smooth and coated with a light oil coating and is pleasant to the touch.

The forged blade is made of Cr-Mn steel and is heat-treated to 59 HRC hardness, which ensures long-lasting sharpness. The chisel must be sharpened before use.
